QUALITY LEADER –


I. Job Summary
Plans and implements QA department activities in order to support Centro’s Quality Policy and objectives as well as Business Unit goals. Leads, manages and mentors the QA department in order to support production, engineering and the customer. Uses quality tools within the context of the Centro’s Quality System to drive improvement in product, processes and systems. Implements and promotes Centro’s Quality System and takes action as needed to address nonconformances.

II. Relevance and Importance
Centro and Centro’s customers rely heavily on the Quality Assurance function to provide assurance that customers’ needs and requirements are being met. This assurance comes as systems are implemented, procedures are followed, product and processes are audited, and records are maintained. The QA Leader is looked upon as a mentor/leader for QA Associates and Team Leaders/Managers in the areas of continuous improvement, quality tools and Centro’s ISO 9000 compliant Quality System. This leadership is essential for achieving our stretch goals in our strategic plan and our quality objectives.

III. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
1. Requires a degree in Engineering/Manufacturing or related field, or equivalent education with a minimum of five years of manufacturing experience and extensive knowledge of quality tools. Rotomolding experience as well as experience with Six Sigma, Lean, SPC (Statistical Process Control), DOE (Design of Experiment) and FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) is preferred.

2. Ability to plan, determine, formulate, establish and manage complete quality assurance systems. Must maintain Centro and customer quality standards, have a pleasant disposition and use tact in dealing with Associates and customers. Must be able to supervise, communicate, use computer related quality programs and have good writing skills. Must be able to apply the scientific method to problem solving and be able to reason, analyze and trouble shoot problems and make timely recommendations for solutions. Must have the ability to do mathematical problems and to use statistical techniques for evaluating data.

3. Ability to use and operate all tools and equipment used in Centro’s Quality Assurance processes, including height gauge, drop tester, calipers, scale, ultrasound thickness gauge, gauge blocks, roto-tap sieve tester, pyrometer, micrometer and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine). Also uses hand and power tools used in Centro processes and common office equipment, including Centro’s computer system and applicable software for production, planning and communications, copier, telephone and voice mail, fax and email. Safety equipment required includes safety glasses, hard hat and ear plugs. Software utilized includes Microsoft Office and statistical and gage management software as needed.

4. American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification for Quality Manager or Quality Engineer is preferred. Valid driver’s license required.
5. Must be able to read and interpret quality reports, production reports, product summary reports, work schedules, procedures, graphs, prototype sample reports, process specifications, scrap reports, corrective action plans, letters to customers, and procedures. Must be conversant, persuasive and have good speaking skills. Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communications with other departments, vendors, peers, and customers. Must be able to judge depth, distinguish colors, detect variances visually and see objects as actual.

IV. Specific Position Responsibilities:
1. Develop, formulate and direct the quality programs for the organization to include advanced inspection methods, devices and auditing practices.
2. Develop and recommend auditing and sampling techniques, quality control policies, procedures and standards that will ensure production of finished products that meet customer needs and stated requirements.
3. Develop and authorize product and process audit sampling plans.
4. Performs duties and fulfills responsibilities in accordance with those defined in Centro's Quality System including but not limited to those described in QSP's 6220, 8242, 8244, 7435, 7600, 8300, 8301, and 8220, and 8531 and 8532.
5. Takes an active role in Centro's corrective and preventive action processes as described in QSP 8530.
6. Conduct and/or supervise studies to determine cause, effect and the corrective measures required to address causes of nonconformances or barriers to improvement.
7. Maintain complete and accurate quality records. Report Customer Appreciation results as required.
8. Communicate with leaders/managers within the organization to convey customer concerns and promote quality awareness.
9. Make regular visits to customers to maintain goodwill, provide technical support, confer on specific quality problems, programs and customer requirements.
10. Make suggestions and promote cost reduction improvements.
11. Assure that housekeeping is continuously at an exceptional high standard to provide a favorable impression on the customer and to enhance Associate safety and productivity.
12. Lead and manage QA Associates on a team ensuring Associates are executing their responsibilities as described in the Quality System by assessing work and establishing goals and action plans. Will assign and support work, conduct semi-annual review and planning sessions, and recommend wage increases. Must have ability and desire to identify the developmental needs of others and coach, mentor, and assist others to improve their knowledge or skills.
13. Keep well informed of the state of the art in technical subjects with continuous development and learning.
14. Be familiar with the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, the location of Material Safety Data Sheets, read labels and follow safe practices in using chemicals, etc.
15. Perform other functions necessary for maintaining a successful QA Department.

V. Work Environment and Schedule
Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment, with temperatures ranging from 55-100 degrees F. Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, with some potential for occasional variances depending on departmental workload. The work schedule for this position matches the Business Unit shift guidelines. Periodic travel to all Centro facilities, customers, vendor sites, and conferences including overnight stays, may be required. Will commit sufficient time to accomplish all job responsibilities in a timely manner.
